Construction is well underway for the remodelling of this shopfront in Seven Dials, London.
The character of the area is influenced by the tight-knit urban grain, the particular scale of the buildings, the narrowness of the streets.
We were reminded of the well-known Edward Hopper painting ‘Nighthawks’ depicting a fictional New York City corner. There is a remarkable likeness in terms of scale and proportion to the corner of Tower Street and Earlham Street, and the design takes cues from the painting. The shopfront wraps around the street corner, and pays particular attention to proportion and details to ensure it fits comfortably within it’s context and improves the vibrancy of the street.
